SPOTORNO / The Republic of Pesto
La Repubblica del pestois the result of a tourist – cultural project of project leader Marco Cesari; the Republic is a “virtual territory”, in which area and receptiveness live together and must mean values for everybody.
Mr Cesari has organized a tourist – cultural – environment program based on original hospitality principles for a tourism in which prevails the social value of safeguard of common wellness, respecting the nature and agriculture tradition. The objective is becoming an important organization of all Riviera Ligure to get a more coherent increase in value of territory and tradition.
According to this point of view the identification of culture of “Mediterranean herbs”, and especially of basil, wants to be a “trait d’union” between the tourist demand and the local inhabitants. The agriculture tradition in Spotorno, in fact, is historically known sin XXII Century directly by Emperor Federico II of Svevia. For this reason the Association desires to rediscover the ancient culture of pesto, plant of mysterious origins, maybe from India, for its gastronomic and therapeutic properties.
Rediscover basil and pesto in nowadays tourist Spotorno, means to link the “herb of wellness and natural cooking” to a renewed idea of hospitality. The Republic of Pesto is promoter of an opportunity of social development not only in favour of tourism but also of environment and local community.
