The Riviera di Ponente includes the provinces of Imperia and Savona, where wines DOC of Riviera Ligure di Ponente are producted (kinds: Ormeasco, from Nebbiolo grapes, also in versions Superiore and Sciacchetrà, Rossese, Pigato and Fermentino – areas of Albenga, Finale Ligure and Riviera dei Fiori) and Rossese from Dolceacqua (mostly from Rossese grapes, also in version Superiore). To complete the list the IGT of Savona hills.
Itinerary
The route starts from Ventimiglia, follows for Camporosso (Marco Foresti, Tenuta Giuncheo), then to the hinterland until Dolceacqua (Adriano Maccario, Antonio Perrino, Giobatta, Terre Bianche), main production centre of homonym DOC situated in the centre of Val di Nervia, where the mild climate is particularly ideal for grapevine cultivation, specially for Rossese, that here gives excellent results.
Other centres of DOC are Soldano (Enzo Guglielmi), and San Biagio della Cima (Giovanna Maccario), from which is possible to reach Bordighera, (where starts the production of DOC Riviera Ligure di Ponente), from which carry on until San Remo, city of Flowers and Italian Music Song Festival (March).
Then Sarola (Ramoino), and go back on the coast to Imperia (Colle dei Bardellini), nearby there are Diano Castello (white wines), and Diano Marina (Montali and Temesio), important seaside centre.
From Alassio go up in the surrounding until Ortovero (Durin, Ingauni), then Vendone (Claudio Vio), Ranzo, Borgo di Ranzo (A Maccia, Bruna, Guidi, Massimo Alessandri), Pieve di Teco (Lupi), Pornassio (Lorenzo Ramò), where is produced the DOC Ormeasco of Pornassio with its special manifestation “Due Giorni dell’Ormeasco” (Two Days of Ormeasco) in October.
Go down again to the coast and Albenga (Anfossi, Cascina Feipu dei Massaretti, De Andreis, Sommariva, Vecchia cantina), to continue until Finale Ligure (Casanova, Cascina delle Terre Rosse, Ruffino) and Savona, the perfect conclusion of our journey.
